Simple and intuitive handling - the Mad Rock Lifeguard! This belay device is opened and closed very similarly to the GriGri. However, in contrast with the GriGri is doesn't have an automatic blocking function. During the fall arrest of a climber, there will be an increase in friction, which will take the strain off of your brake hand and provide extra security. This will only work, though, if your brake hand is in the correct position. So, handling is more comfortable and saves energy. Plus, you have the option of giving slack quickly when belaying a leader. The Lifeguard works similarly to the GriGri in that it has an easy-to-use handle that allows a smooth release of the rope.
