The Cortex/Apex Pick Weights from DMM are a useful optional accessory to increase the impact capacity of the picks. This gives the head of the ice pick more mass. This means that you need a little more power when you swing out, but you also have more power when hammering down. As a result, the extra weights are often used when navigating steep ice or long ice channels.
